Theme Selection - the mismatch problem
More often than not, when we have been asked to customize an existing theme from galleries here we have run into a mismatch problem. That is, the client's given branding elements (logo, pics etc.) and the chosen theme clash badly, mainly in respect to sizes and color scheme..and if the branding elements can't be altered adapting themes can turn into a nightmare! So..if you're not keen to change the sizes and colors of your branding elements the steps suggested below could help you choose a theme which is just 'right'..that is, it shouldn't tax you much when you customize, and should look good too. We're assuming you're in a hurry..because if you do have the time and the inclination nothing should prevent you from extreme customization!!
Step 1 - your branding
Before selecting we suggest you first look seriously at your existing logo, pics etc. with particular regard to sizes and color scheme. We are assuming that these are elements you won't like to or can't change.
Step 2 - users gallery - theme + layout
Next, make a trip to the >> Users Gallery Here you will find implementations that could help you follow a holistic customization approach..theme + layout. Look at as many sites and theme examples as you can. You will see that quite a few users have managed to put in their branding in a very nice, 'economical' way without taking extreme steps..and have used Moodle's layout spaces such as HTML blocks and the Topic Section very well. Good layout beneath the header can make a tremendous difference.
Step 3 - theme galleries
Now when you look at the theme galleries you are likely to mentally match your branding with various themes..keeping limitations in mind! |
